sistine Madonna - painted by Christine Dumbsky in the year 2011

The national art collections Dresden are going to set up the attention to one of the most famous paintings of the world in the next year: Raffaels „Sistine Madonna “ „we want to tell it`s history of the emergence in the Roman Renaissance up to the global myth “, said the curator Andreas Henning.

From the 26th of May till 26th of August 2012 it is to be represented in the ground floor of the picture gallery old masters/Dresden -where the reception history of the cult picture should be told, which will be then 500 years old, also by examples from the literature and art.

Christine Dumbsky has a special connection with Dresden, since she presented Saxonia with her live painting performance at the international tourism fair ITB in Berlin for the tourism agency.
The idea to convert the "Sistine Madonna" for such an appearance came already during the planning phase with the marketing agency. After the visit of the Dresdens picture gallery this idea became concrete shape. After the conception and first drafts the artist near-dared herself into the topic to convert the picture emphasis of the origininal to her interpretation but still close to Raffels work. For a planned Live presentation the representation would be done contentwise and technically transferred to our time.

„The Sixtina" hung 250 years very hidden in a remote place in Italy, before it came to Dresden, again discovered by romantics and started it´s fame course through music, art and literature.

“In the year 1754 - at that time still unknown painting - it was brought to Dresden by August III.

The national art collections Dresden want to show the trace of it from the purchase 1754 until the present.
To the celebrity of the painting the two angels at the feet of the Madonna also contributed, which were for the first time decoupled 1805 from the picture and afterwards had an independent development existence by heights and depths of kitsch and art.

Raffaelo Santi called Raffael (1483 to 1520) painted " Sixtini Madonna" on behalf the Pope Julius II in the year 1512, as well as the painting " Madonna di Foligno", which almost at the same time developed on behalf the pope secret secretary Sigismondo de Conti for the Roman Basilika Santa Maria in Aracoeli. Thus both paintings might have probably been in Raffaels studio at the time.

In the current exhibition in September 2011 in Dresden these two paintings will be shown together for the first time again, for this opportunity as a loan, pope Benedikt XVI had to give his permission to this agreement.

The exhibition was only possible at all in connection with the visit of the pope. Thus the painting "Madonna di Foligno" leaves for the first time and exclusively the Vatikan for to be in the Semperbau for meeting her "sisters" - for the exhibition " Raffael, Grünwald and Dürer painted the Madonna".

So one of the most important women of the world receives several appreciations, particularly in the representation of the famous sistine Madonna, from their emerge before 500 years in the Roman Renaissance, up to one of the world-wide most famous Madonna and woman image representations at all, by all facets of the art and the commerce.
